Mini Lesson

Taking pictures is a wonderful way to remember moments and create art — but like all technology, there are important rules to keep everyone safe and happy.

Always ask permission first

  • Before you photograph a person, always ask: "Is it OK if I take your picture?"
  • If they say no, respect their answer and do not take the photo.
  • Example: Taking a photo of your pet — the pet cannot say no, so that is always fine. But a friend can, so you must ask.

Safe subjects to photograph

  • Objects around the house — toys, books, food.
  • Nature — flowers, trees, clouds, insects.
  • Your own artwork or creations.
  • Family members who have said yes.

Sharing pictures safely

  • Never share a photo online without asking a trusted adult first.
  • Never share a photo that shows private information like your home address or street name on a sign.
  • Photos stay on the internet for a very long time — always think before you share.
