Mini Lesson

Today we bring two of your favorite things together — art and technology! You are going to use a drawing app to create a digital artwork about a smart machine you have learned about this year.

What makes great digital artwork?

  • A clear subject — someone looking at your art should be able to tell what the machine is.
  • Color with purpose — use different colors to make parts stand out and show how the machine works.
  • Detail — add small parts like buttons, wheels, arms, or lights to bring your machine to life.
  • Example: A robot with bright blue eyes, red arms, and a glowing antenna — each detail tells us something about the robot.

Using your tools together

  • Use the brush to draw the outline of your machine.
  • Use the fill tool or color picker to add blocks of color.
  • Use the shape tool for perfect circles (wheels, eyes) and rectangles (screens, bodies).
  • Use undo freely — great artists revise their work!

Add a title

  • If your app has a text tool, type the name of your machine.
  • If not, write the name neatly on paper and place it under your printed artwork.

Digital

Artwork
