✍️ WRITING (40 Lessons)🟠 E. Project & Review

← Back to Level 1

Objective

I can write a short sentence about helping the Earth. I can say how I help and start with a capital letter and end with a period.

Materials

If you have time, children can turn their sentences and pictures into a small “Helping the Earth” mini-book at home.

Mini-lesson — How can we help the Earth?

The Earth is our home. We live here, play here, and grow here. We can help take care of the Earth with small actions.

Some simple ways children can help the Earth are:

  • Putting trash in the trash can
  • Putting bottles and paper in the recycling bin
  • Turning off lights when leaving a room
  • Saving water by turning the tap off
  • Planting trees or flowers with an adult

In this lesson, we write short sentences that start with "I help the Earth by…"

Examples:

  • "I help the Earth by recycling."
  • "I help the Earth by saving water."
  • "I help the Earth by turning off lights."

These sentences all tell one clear action that helps the Earth.

  1. Think of one way you help the Earth.
  2. Say the sentence out loud.
  3. Write the sentence on your paper.
  4. Check the capital letter and period.

Keep the sentences short and clear. One strong sentence is better than a long, confusing sentence at this age.

Guided Practice — Plan a helping-the-Earth sentence

Use the Tracing Pad to warm up with Earth-care words. Then follow this routine to plan a short sentence about helping the Earth.

  1. Talk about ways to help:
Say ideas together like picking up trash, recycling bottles, saving water, and turning off lights.
  2. Warm up on the Tracing Pad:
Trace words like earth, clean, trees, and water. Whisper-read the words as you trace.
  3. Choose one action:
Pick one way you help the Earth. For example: putting a bottle in the recycling bin.
  4. Say the sentence:
Say a full sentence that starts with "I help the Earth by…"
For example: "I help the Earth by recycling."
  5. Write your sentence:
On your paper, write your sentence neatly on one line. Start with a capital letter and end with a period.
  6. Add a picture:
Draw a picture of yourself helping the Earth in the way you wrote about. Make sure the picture matches your sentence.
  7. Check your work:
Read your sentence aloud and ask:
    • Does my sentence make sense?
    • Does it match my picture?
    • Can someone tell how I help the Earth?

If this is part of a project, you can collect these pages to make a small "We Help the Earth" class book.

Drag & Drop — Build helping-the-Earth sentences

You will build short sentences that tell how someone helps the Earth. Each sentence starts with "I help the Earth by…".

On the device:
Read each idea about helping the Earth. Then drag the word chips into the empty slots to build a clear sentence. Chips stay in their own question.

On paper:
Choose one sentence you built. Copy it in your best handwriting on your paper. Add a picture that matches it.

1) Recycling:
You put paper and bottles into a recycling bin instead of the trash. Build a sentence that tells how you help the Earth.

I help the Earth by recycling. running animals

2) Saving water:
You turn off the tap while brushing your teeth so you do not waste water. Build a sentence that tells how you help the Earth.

I help the Earth by saving water. shouting inside

3) Turning off lights:
You switch off the lights when you leave a room so you do not waste energy. Build a sentence that tells how you help the Earth.

I help the Earth by turning off lights. louder outside

4) Picking up trash:
You pick up trash you see on the sidewalk and put it in a trash can. Build a sentence that tells how you help the Earth.

I help the Earth by picking up trash. sleeping noisy
