Mini Lesson

Imagine how you feel when someone shares with you or says something nice. That warm feeling is what respect and kindness create — and you can give that feeling to others every single day.

What is respect?

  • Respect means treating other people the way you want to be treated.
  • You show respect by listening when someone speaks, being polite, and taking care of things that belong to others.
  • Example: waiting your turn to talk instead of interrupting shows respect.

What is kindness?

  • Kindness means doing something helpful or nice for another person.
  • Kind acts can be small — a smile, holding a door, or saying "thank you."
  • Example: helping a friend pick up dropped crayons is a kind act.

Where do we show respect and kindness?

  • At home: using kind words with family members, listening to parents and caregivers.
  • During lessons: taking turns, sharing supplies, listening carefully.
  • In the community: being polite to neighbors, holding doors, saying hello.

Why do they matter?

  • When everyone shows respect and kindness, communities feel safe and happy.
  • One kind act can inspire others to be kind too.
