🟡 SOCIAL STUDIES (40 Lessons)🔵 B. My School and Community

← Back to Level 1

Objective

I can name different jobs people do and say how these jobs help others.

Materials

Mini-lesson — What is a job?

A job is work that a person does. Many jobs help other people.

Some jobs in a community

  • A teacher helps children learn.
  • A nurse helps people who are sick or hurt.
  • A cook makes food for others.
  • A driver takes people or things to places.
  • A guard helps keep a place safe.
  • A cleaner keeps places tidy.
  • A builder helps make homes and roads.

Important notes

  • Some jobs are done inside, some are done outside.
  • Some jobs use a uniform. Some do not.
  • Some jobs are in the day. Some are at night.

All jobs matter

  • We do not say one job is better than all others.
  • We can say, "This job helps people in this way."
  • We show respect for all people who work.

When we talk about jobs, we use kind words and remember that every job can help in some way.

Guided Practice — Jobs that help

You will draw and talk about three jobs that help people in your community.

  1. Think of three jobs you know (for example, teach, cook, drive, fix, guard).
  2. On your page, draw three small boxes in a row.
  3. In each box, draw a simple picture of a person doing that job.
  4. Under each box, write: "A _____ helps _____ ." (for example, "A cook helps with food.").
  5. With an adult, read your sentences aloud. Use a clear voice.
  6. Talk about how each job helps others. Do not say that one job is better than all the others.

Practice — Who helps in this way?

Use kind words to match jobs and how they help. There is more than one good job in real life, but choose one simple match for each line.

  1. With an adult, read a simple "help" sentence, such as "This person helps sick people."
  2. Point to a short job word that could fit, such as nurse or doctor.
  3. Say a full sentence: "A nurse helps sick people."
  4. Try more ideas. For example:
    • "This person helps us learn." → teach
    • "This person keeps a place safe." → guard
    • "This person makes food." → cook
    • "This person fixes things." → fix
  5. At the end, say one sentence you like, such as "Many jobs help people."
