Lesson 159: Review all units

🔬 SCIENCE (40 Lessons)🟠 E. Science Projects & Review

← Back to Level 1

Objective

I can remember and talk about important ideas from all of our Level 1 science units, match pictures to the right topic, and say which science ideas I would like to practise again.

Materials

Mini-lesson — Looking back at our science learning

We have learned about many science topics this year. Today we will review them. Review means to look again so our brain remembers and understands better.

What did we learn about?

  • Plants & animals: living and nonliving things, what plants and animals need.
  • Earth & weather: sun, clouds, rain, seasons, caring for the Earth.
  • Materials & tests: different materials and simple experiments.
  • Body & health: body parts, germs, rest, and healthy habits.

What is a review station?

  • A station is a table or spot with pictures or cards about one topic.
  • You move with your group from one station to the next.
  • At each station you look, talk, and remember what you learned.

How do I know I understand?

  • You can say which topic a picture belongs to (for example, "This picture is Earth & weather.").
  • You can tell one fact about the picture.
  • You can write or draw a small note on your review sheet.

Review is not a test. It is a chance to show what you know and notice what you want to practise again.

Guided Practice — Move through the review stations

You will visit four review stations. At each one, you look at pictures and talk about what you remember from that unit.

  1. Set up the stations: An adult places picture cards or objects on four tables or floor spots: Plants & animals, Earth & weather, Materials & tests, Body & health.
  2. Start at one station: Go with your group to your first station. Spend a few minutes looking carefully at the pictures.
  3. Talk about what you see: For each picture, say what unit it belongs to and one fact you remember, such as "This seed needs water to grow" or "Washing hands helps stop germs".
  4. Write or draw a note: On a sticky note or small paper, draw the picture you liked best and write a few words under it, like "cloudy day" or "strong teeth".
  5. Rotate: When the adult calls time, move to the next station and repeat the same steps.
  6. Use the tracing pad: Choose words such as plant, animal, weather, material, body, health, or experiment and trace them slowly.
  7. Share a memory: After visiting all stations, tell an adult one science idea you remember really well.

Practice 1 — Match pictures to science units

Practise linking pictures to the correct science unit.

  1. Draw four big boxes on a page and label them: "Plants & animals", "Earth & weather", "Materials & tests", and "Body & health".
  2. On small pieces of paper, draw quick pictures, such as: tree, bird, seed, rain cloud, sun, snow, rock, magnet, ramp, tooth, soap, running child.
  3. Place or glue each picture into the box that fits the best unit. Talk with an adult about why it belongs there.
  4. Circle one picture in each box and tell an adult a sentence you remember from that unit, for example: "Plants need sunlight and water to grow."
  5. At the bottom of the page, write: "My favourite science unit was…" and finish the sentence.

Practice 2 — Make a mini science review booklet

Create a small booklet with one page for each science unit.

  1. Fold a few sheets of paper in half to make a simple booklet. Ask an adult to help staple or tape the fold.
  2. On the front cover, write a title such as "My Level 1 Science Book" and draw a small picture.
  3. Inside, make one page for each unit. At the top, write the unit name, for example "Plants & animals" or "Body & health".
  4. On each page, draw one thing you remember and write a short sentence underneath, such as "Rain helps plants grow" or "Soap and water wash away germs".
  5. Colour your booklet and share it with a family member or classmate, reading one sentence from each page.

Practice 3 — What I know well and what I will review again

Think about which science ideas feel easy for you and which still feel a bit tricky.

  1. Draw two columns on a page. Label one "I know this well" and the other "I will review again".
  2. In the first column, write or draw 3–5 science ideas that feel easy for you now.
  3. In the second column, write or draw 2–3 science ideas that you would like to practise more.
  4. With an adult, talk about one way you can review a "tricky" idea, such as reading your booklet or doing a small experiment again.
  5. At the bottom, finish this sentence: "Next year, I want to learn more about…".

Quick Check — Review all units

Answer each question. Think about everything you learned in Level 1 science.

1) Which group shows living things?

Living things grow, need food and water, and can have babies.

2) What do plants need to grow well?

Plants need sunlight, water, and air to grow.

3) Which picture belongs in the weather unit?

Clouds and rain are part of weather.

4) Which sentence is true about the sun?

The sun is a star that gives us light and warmth.

5) What do we call a careful test in science?

A science test is called an experiment.

6) Which of these is a material?

Wood is a material we can use to make things.

7) One lesson was about germs. What helps stop germs from spreading?

Washing hands with soap and water helps remove germs.

8) Which habit helps keep your body healthy?

Healthy food and enough sleep help keep your body healthy.

9) Which sense do you mainly use to see the world?

You use your eyes for the sense of sight.

10) In a fair test, we usually…

In a fair test, we change one thing and keep others the same.

11) Which group matches Earth & weather learning?

Sun, cloud, and rain are part of Earth and weather.

12) Why is it good to ask questions in science?

Questions help us learn and plan experiments.

13) Which sentence belongs in the plants & animals unit?

Seeds growing with water, soil, and light is part of plants & animals learning.

14) Which set of words all match the body & health unit?

Teeth, germs, sleep, and exercise are all about body and health.

15) Why is it useful to review all units at the end of the year?

Review helps us remember our learning and prepare for new science next year.
