Lesson 119: Review of all topics

🧮 MATH (40 Lessons)🟠 E. Problem Solving & Projects

← Back to Level 1

Objective

I can review the big ideas from Level 1 math. I can show how I understand numbers, addition, subtraction, time, measurement, data, and money by solving simple mixed questions.

Materials

Mini-lesson — Looking back at Level 1 math

This lesson is a big review of Level 1 math. We will look at the main ideas you have already learned and practise them together.

1. Numbers and patterns

  • We count forwards and backwards.
  • We notice patterns like 2, 4, 6, 8… or 10, 20, 30…
  • We compare numbers to see which is greater, less, or equal.

2. Addition and subtraction

  • Addition joins groups together to find a total.
  • Subtraction takes away to find how many are left or how many more one group has.
  • We use pictures, number lines, and word problems to help us think.

3. Time and calendars

  • We read times like 3 o'clock on a clock.
  • We use the words today, yesterday, and tomorrow.
  • We look at a month on a calendar and find the date.

4. Measurement, data, and money

  • We talk about length (long/short), weight (heavy/light), and how much containers hold (full/empty).
  • We read simple tally charts and bar charts.
  • We use coins to make small totals of money.

In this review you will answer mixed questions from all of these parts. Your job is to show what you know and notice any skills you would like to practise again.

Guided Practice — My math picture map

You will make a small math picture map. It shows the topics you remember from this year. Use the tracing pad and your own paper to build your map.

  1. Pick three topics: Choose three you remember well, like add, clock, or money.
  2. Trace the words: On the tracing pad, trace the topic words you picked. Say each word out loud as you trace it.
  3. Draw tiny pictures: On your paper, draw a small picture for each topic, such as:
    • a short sum for add • a round face for clock • a coin for money
  4. Add one number: For each picture, write one number that matches it (for example, 5 + 2, a clock at 3, or a price like 7).
  5. Talk about your map: Point to each part and say one sentence, like "This is my add sum" or "This is my time clock".

Quick Check — Review of all topics

Answer each mixed question. Some are about number, some about time, measurement, data, or money. You may look back at the mini-lesson or your notes.

1) Which number is greater?

9 is greater than 7 and 3.

2) What is 4 + 3?

4 + 3 makes 7.

3) What is 9 − 5?

If you take 5 away from 9, you have 4 left.

4) The clock shows the big hand at 12 and the small hand at 4. What time is it?

Small hand on 4 means 4 o'clock.

5) Today is Tuesday. What day was yesterday?

The day before Tuesday is Monday.

6) Which word fits? A pencil is _____ than a table.

A pencil is shorter than a table.

7) Which is usually heavier?

A shoe weighs more than a leaf or feather.

8) A small cup and a large jug are both full of juice. Which holds more?

A large jug can hold more liquid than a small cup.

9) In a tally chart, which mark shows five?

We draw four tallies, then one across to show five.

10) A bar chart shows blue bars for cats and red bars for dogs. The blue bar is taller. What does this mean?

A taller bar means more of that thing.

11) You have coins worth 2, 2, and 1. How much money is that in total?

2 + 2 + 1 makes 5.

12) A snack costs 6. You have 10. How much is left after you pay?

10 − 6 = 4 left.

13) Which shape has 3 sides?

A triangle has three straight sides.

14) When you see a word sum, what is a good first step?

We read carefully and look for clue words before we solve.

15) Why do we do a review lesson like this?

A review helps us see what we know well and what we still need to practise.
