Grade 6 · Writing · Lesson 12

Develop theme through events and reflection

Every powerful story is about more than its plot. The subject is what the story is literally about — a girl who runs away, a village struck by flood, a boy who enters a race. The theme is what the story says about the human experience: that resilience outlasts defeat, that community rebuilds what loss takes away, that success without connection is hollow. Theme is not stated; it is developed — through events, through what characters feel, and through the reflection that follows each turning point.
