Civic participation beyond voting

Voting is the most familiar way to take part in public life — but in a healthy democracy it is just the start. Between elections, citizens can write to representatives, peacefully protest, volunteer, sign petitions, run for local office, and join community groups. Some of the biggest changes in history have been driven not by elections alone, but by ordinary people working together between them.
