Grade 6 · Social Studies · Lesson 27

How laws are made

A law does not appear by magic. It starts as an idea, becomes a written proposal called a bill, and only becomes a real law after a long, careful process of drafting, debating, reviewing, and voting. The exact steps differ a little from country to country, but the general path is the same in most democracies. Knowing how a law is made helps you understand what changes are possible — and how to argue for them.
