Coordinate Plane: All Quadrants

A coordinate plane is a flat grid built from two number lines that cross at right angles. The horizontal line is the x-axis, the vertical line is the y-axis, and the point where they meet is the origin, written as (0, 0). Together the two axes split the plane into four regions called quadrants.

What this lesson teaches

1Identify the four quadrants of the coordinate plane and the signs of the coordinates inside each one
2Plot ordered pairs (x, y) with positive and negative values in any quadrant
3Determine the quadrant or axis on which a given point lies from its coordinates
4Describe the role of the x-axis, the y-axis, and the origin (0, 0)
