Grade 5 · Writing · Lesson 10

Include Sensory Details and Emotions

Sensory details are the words that let your reader SEE, HEAR, SMELL, TASTE, and TOUCH the moment with you. Emotions are what you felt INSIDE while it happened. A vivid memory comes from BOTH at once. When the cinnamon roll smells warm AND your chest fills with comfort, the reader is right there beside you. In this lesson you will pair the right sense with the right feeling so every paragraph carries a real heartbeat.
