Mini Lesson
This second mixed-skills review pulls problems from every unit so far: place value, multi-digit operations, fractions, decimals, measurement, geometry, data, and patterns. The goal is not to learn anything new today. The goal is to spot which skills are solid and which still need a little more practice. Slow down on the steps you used to skip, and use the four self-check habits on every problem.
Six Skills to Mix and Match
- Whole numbers — place value, comparing, rounding, addition, and subtraction.
- Multiplication and division — multi-digit products, quotients, and remainders.
- Fractions — equivalent, comparing, adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing.
- Decimals — place value to thousandths, comparing, ordering, and operations.
- Measurement and geometry — area, perimeter, volume, angles, and conversions.
- Data and patterns — averages, line plots, bar graphs, and rule-finding.
Four Self-Check Habits
- Re-read — make sure your answer matches the actual question, not a question you imagined.
- Estimate — round each number, do the easy version, and confirm your answer is close.
- Substitute back — plug your answer into the original problem and see if it works.
- Label units — write cm, kg, minutes, or dollars next to every measurement answer.
How to Review Smart
- Start with the problem that looks hardest, while you are most fresh.
- If you are stuck for more than two minutes, mark it and move on; come back later.
- After each problem, write the unit and circle the final answer.
- When you finish, scan all answers once more and apply the four self-check habits.
Tip: estimate first, solve second, and check third. The estimate is your safety net — if your final answer is far off, redo the work.
