Objective

I can build a clear outline with a topic, 2–3 subpoints, and examples to guide my paragraph writing.

Materials

Outline pattern to try: Topic → Point 1 (example) → Point 2 (example) → Point 3 (example) → Closing idea.

Mini-lesson — What is an Outline?

  1. Outline: a plan that orders ideas before writing.
  2. Levels: Topic (I), Subpoints (A, B, C), Examples (1, 2).
  3. Flow: Put related ideas together (no random jumps).
  4. Fit: Each subpoint should support the topic sentence.
  5. Test: Can someone write the paragraph from your outline?

Guided Practice — Writing Pad (Keyboard)

Prompt: Create an outline for the topic “Volunteering helps our community.”

  • Plan: Brainstorm 3 subpoints (help people, clean places, learn skills).
  • Draft: Turn your outline into a paragraph (90–130 words).
  • Edit: Check order, transitions, and remove any off-topic item.
