How to use: Print first for the main practice. Then use the device to repeat activities and save progress.

Objective

I can expand a sentence by adding adjectives and adverbs to make my writing clearer and stronger.

Materials

Mini-lesson — Add the right kind of detail

Simple sentences can be correct, but they can also feel plain. You can improve them with adjectives and adverbs.

Adjectives describe nouns.

  • bright balloon
  • heavy backpack

Adverbs describe actions.

  • ran quickly
  • spoke softly

Example

  • Start: The bird sang.
  • Better: The tiny bird sang sweetly.

Quick check: "Did I add a detail that helps the reader picture it better?"

Guided Practice — Add one noun detail and one action detail
