Mini Lesson
A science journal is a personal record of your scientific investigations. Scientists use journals to write down questions, predictions, methods, results, and conclusions. Keeping a well-organized journal helps you track your learning and communicate your findings to others.
Science Report Structure: Q-P-M-R-C
- Question (Q) — What do I want to find out? State your investigation question clearly.
- Prediction (P) — What do I think will happen? Give a reason for your prediction.
- Method (M) — How will I test my idea? List materials and steps in order.
- Results (R) — What did I observe or measure? Use tables, drawings, and data.
- Conclusion (C) — What did I learn? Compare results to prediction and explain.
Setting Up Your Journal
- Cover page — title, your name, grade, and year.
- Table of contents — list each investigation with its page number.
- Date each entry — always write the date at the top of each page.
- Use clear headings — label each section: Question, Prediction, Method, Results, Conclusion.
