Mini Lesson
Converting between units means changing from one unit to another while keeping the same value. The key is knowing the conversion factor — the number that links the two units.
Length: cm and m
- 1 meter (m) = 100 centimeters (cm).
- To convert m to cm: multiply by 100 (move the decimal two places right).
- To convert cm to m: divide by 100 (move the decimal two places left).
Mass: g and kg
- 1 kilogram (kg) = 1,000 grams (g).
- To convert kg to g: multiply by 1,000.
- To convert g to kg: divide by 1,000.
Capacity: mL and L
- 1 liter (L) = 1,000 milliliters (mL).
- To convert L to mL: multiply by 1,000.
- To convert mL to L: divide by 1,000.
