← Back to Level 3

Objective

I can end sentences with the correct punctuation (., ?, !), capitalize sentence beginnings and names, and use spelling strategies to write common words correctly.

Materials

Tip: Read your sentence out loud. Does it tell (.), ask (?), or show strong feeling (!)?

Mini-lesson — Punctuate & Spell for Clarity

  1. Period (.) ends a telling sentence: I walked to class.
  2. Question mark (?) ends a question: Did you finish?
  3. Exclamation point (!) shows strong feeling: That’s amazing!
  4. Capitalize the first word in a sentence and names: Maria, June.
  5. Spelling strategies: stretch the word, look for patterns (ai, ee, ight), and check a word list or dictionary.

Guided Practice — Fix & Finish Sentences

Use the pad to rewrite these lines with correct punctuation and spelling:

  1. do you have a pencil?
  2. we are late for the bus. or !
  3. that cake looks delishus → fix spelling: delicious
