Mini Lesson
Your lessons are full of memories — funny moments, proud achievements, times you helped a friend, or days you learned something new. Today you will turn one of those memories into a paragraph that brings it back to life!
The Three-Prompt Plan
- When did it happen? — name the time: "One morning during math…"
- What happened? — describe the event step by step with specific details.
- How did I feel? — use a feeling word to share your reaction.
Using Time Words
- Time words help your reader follow the memory in order.
- First, Then, Next, After that, Finally — signal the sequence of events.
- One morning, Last week, During science, At the end of the day — set the scene.
- Start your topic sentence with a time word or time phrase.
- Example: "One afternoon during art lesson, something funny happened."
Adding Lesson Details
- Specific lesson details make a memory paragraph feel real.
- Name the subject: math, science, art, reading, PE.
- Name your grown-up or friends (if sharing your writing, check privacy rules).
- Describe what you were doing: "We were solving word problems when…"
- Include what you saw, heard, or said at that moment.

Ask yourself: "When did this happen? What exactly did I see or do? How did it make me feel — and why?"
Vocabulary
Memory paragraph
A short paragraph that tells about one real moment from your lessons — with a beginning, middle, and closing reflectione.g. One afternoon during art lesson, something special happened…
Time phrase
A group of words at the start of a paragraph that tells the reader when the memory took place and sets the scenee.g. One morning, Last week, During science lesson
Sequence words
Words that show the order of events — they help the reader follow the memory step by stepe.g. First, Then, Next, After that, Finally
Lesson details
Specific facts from your lesson day — the subject, the activity, what you saw or heard — that make writing vivide.g. We were mixing paints. Mom smiled. The timer rang.
Closing reflection
A final sentence that looks back on the memory and says why it was important or what you learnede.g. It was one of my favorite lessons ever.
