Mini Lesson
No one learns to ride a bike without falling off a few times. No one learns to read without stumbling over words at first. Mistakes are not the opposite of success — they are part of the path to it. The question is not whether you will make mistakes. It is what you do after them.
Why mistakes are valuable
- Every mistake shows you something that did not work — which helps you find what does.
- Mistakes are proof that you tried something challenging.
- The most successful people in history made many mistakes before they succeeded.
- A mistake only becomes a failure if you stop trying.
What to do after a mistake
- Take a breath — do not panic or give up immediately.
- Ask: "What can I learn from this?"
- Try again — with what you now know.
- Ask for help if you are stuck.
- Be kind to yourself — you are doing something hard.
The mistake to growth loop
- Try → make a mistake → learn from it → try again → get better.
- Every time through the loop, you know a little more.
- Giving up breaks the loop before the growth can happen.
Ask yourself: "When I make a mistake, what is my first response — and is there a kinder, more helpful response I could choose instead?"
