Objective

I can review my writing by checking capitals, spaces, neat letters, and the ending mark.

Materials

Mini-lesson — My simple writing checklist

Today is a review day. We use one small checklist to make writing look clear and correct.

You do not need to fix everything at once. Check one thing, then the next.

Start big

  • Use a capital letter at the start of the sentence.
  • Use capitals for names (people and places).

Space it out

  • Leave one small space between words.
  • No words stuck together.

Make letters neat

  • Tall letters are tall. Small letters sit on the line.
  • Fix one messy letter if it is hard to read.

End it

  • Use a period for a statement.
  • Use a question mark for a question.

Read it once

  • Read out loud and listen for missing words.
  • If it sounds wrong, fix it.

Ask yourself: "Did I use capitals, spaces, and an ending mark?"

Guided Practice — Check and fix one sentence

Choose 3 sentences from the Trace menu and copy them neatly on paper. Then use the Tracing Pad to practice words, sentences, and marks.
