Mini Lesson

Writers do not just tell stories and send cards — sometimes they write to share important ideas that can change the world! Today you will write about something you really believe in: taking care of our Earth.

Three ways to help the Earth

  • Reduce — use less. Turn off lights. Use less water. Take shorter showers.
  • Reuse — use things again. Bring a reusable bag. Refill a water bottle instead of buying a new one.
  • Recycle — put paper, plastic, and glass in the recycling bin so they can be made into new things.

How to write your opinion paragraph

  • Start with a title: How I Help the Earth
  • Write an opinion sentence: I think we should recycle because it helps the Earth stay clean.
  • Add a "what" sentence: We put paper and plastic in the recycling bin.
  • Add a "why it matters" sentence: If we recycle, we make less trash.
  • End with a call to action: You can help too!
