Objective

I can write about a special day by telling what happened in order, adding one strong detail, and ending with a feeling.

Materials

Mini-lesson — Special days: tell it in order

A special day can be big or small. What matters is how you tell it: beginning, middle, end.

Pick the day

  • Birthday, holiday, trip, game, party, or family time.
  • Choose one day and stick to it.

Use order words

  • First (how it started)
  • Then / Next (what happened)
  • Finally (how it ended)

Add one strong detail

  • One clear detail beats lots of tiny details.
  • Tell what you saw, heard, or tasted.

End with a feeling

  • How did you feel at the end?
  • Happy, proud, tired, excited, or thankful.

Ask yourself: "Did I tell it in order? Did I add one clear detail? Did I end with a feeling?"
