Mini Lesson

Your home is a special place. Writing about it lets the reader step inside and see what makes it yours. The key is choosing the right describing words for each room and place.

Starter 1 — My home is …

  • Describe the whole home with one or two big words.
  • Think about size, feeling, or appearance.
  • Example: My home is small and very cozy.

Starter 2 — My favorite room is …

  • Name one special room and describe what makes it great.
  • Rooms: kitchen, bedroom, living room, garden, bathroom.
  • Example: My favorite room is the kitchen because it smells wonderful.

Starter 3 — In my [room] there is …

  • Use there is or there are to describe what is in a room.
  • Example: In my bedroom there is a big soft bed.
  • Add a describing word before the object for a richer picture.

Close with because

  • End your writing by saying why your home is special.
  • Example: I love my home because my family is there.
  • Because gives the reader your personal reason.
