Mini Lesson

You have learned so much about technology this year — smart machines, AI helpers, robots, inventions, safety rules, and creating with technology. Now it is time to show what you know by writing about it.

What makes a strong paragraph?

  • Topic sentence — tells the reader exactly what you are writing about. Start with: "Technology helps people by ___."
  • Example sentence — gives one specific, real example. Start with: "For example, ___."
  • Detail sentence — adds more information about your example. Start with: "This helps because ___."
  • Closing sentence — wraps up your idea. Start with: "Without ___, people would ___." or "That is why technology is important."

Example paragraph (about the internet):

  • "Technology helps people by letting them share information very quickly. For example, the internet connects people all over the world so they can learn, talk, and work together. This helps because people can find answers to their questions in seconds instead of waiting days. Without the internet, sharing information would be much slower."

Topics you could choose

  • Smart machines in hospitals or schools
  • Ocean-cleaning or tree-planting robots
  • Drawing apps or voice recording tools
  • The telephone, the wheel, or the printing press
  • Your own invention idea
