Mini Lesson

Every country in the world has special symbols, places, and traditions that make it unique. Today you will celebrate your own country by creating a collage — a picture made from many different drawings and labels put together.

What is a national symbol?

  • A national symbol is something that represents a country and what it stands for.
  • Examples: the flag (colors and patterns represent the country's history), the national anthem (a song that honors the country), and landmarks (famous places everyone knows).
  • Symbols help people feel connected to their country and proud of where they come from.

What is a landmark?

  • A landmark is a famous or important place that people recognize as part of a country.
  • Landmarks can be natural (mountains, rivers, waterfalls) or built (monuments, bridges, historic buildings).

What goes in your collage?

  • Your country's flag — drawn and colored correctly.
  • At least two landmarks — one natural, one built if possible.
  • One national symbol — such as a national animal, plant, or food.
  • One fact about your country written in a sentence.
  • Your country's name at the top.
