Mini Lesson
Did you know that being part of a community gives you special things called rights — but those rights come with something important attached: responsibilities?
What is a right?
- A right is something every person is entitled to — something you should be able to have or do.
- Example: every child has the right to learn.
- Rights belong to everyone — they are not earned, they are given to all people equally.
What is a responsibility?
- A responsibility is a duty — something you are expected to do in return.
- Example: if you have the right to learn, your responsibility is to attend, pay attention, and do your best.
- Responsibilities help make sure that everyone's rights are protected.
Rights and responsibilities go together
- Right to be safe → Responsibility to follow safety rules.
- Right to be heard → Responsibility to listen when others speak.
- Right to a clean environment → Responsibility to not litter and care for the Earth.
- Right to be treated kindly → Responsibility to treat others with kindness.
💡
Ask yourself: "What is one right I have? What is the responsibility that goes with it?
