Rules and Why We Need Them

You already know about rules at home and during lessons — but rules exist everywhere people share space, from the road to the playground to the whole country!

Why does every community need rules?

• Rules make sure that everyone is treated fairly — no one gets special treatment that others don't.
• Rules keep people safe — they prevent accidents and harmful behavior.
• Example: Traffic lights are a community rule — everyone stops on red and goes on green. Without this rule, roads would be dangerous for everyone.
• Rules help communities work together peacefully.

Where rules exist

• At home — "Be kind to your siblings." Keeps the family peaceful.
• In lessons — "Raise your hand before speaking." Helps everyone learn.
• On the road — "Stop at a red light." Keeps drivers and walkers safe.
• In the community — "Do not litter." Keeps shared spaces clean.
• In a country — Laws that everyone must follow to protect people's rights.

What if there were no rules?

• People could get hurt because there would be no safety guidelines.
• Some people might take more than their fair share, leaving others with nothing.
• Communities would become unsafe, unfair, and chaotic.
