Mini Lesson

Just like your family has rules at home, your classroom has rules too — and they help everyone learn, stay safe, and be kind!

What is a classroom rule?

  • A classroom rule is a rule that applies to everyone in the learning space.
  • Example: "Raise your hand before speaking" is a classroom rule that helps everyone get a turn to talk.
  • Classroom rules use words like always, never, do not, and listen.

Common classroom rules

  • Listen when someone else is speaking.
  • Keep your hands and feet to yourself.
  • Take care of classroom materials and books.
  • Be kind and respectful to everyone.
  • Do your best work and try hard.

Why do classrooms need rules?

  • Rules help everyone learn better — when it is quiet, everyone can focus.
  • Rules keep everyone safe — no running, no pushing.
  • Rules make the classroom a kind, fair place for all learners.
