Mini Lesson

Instead of counting one by one — 1, 2, 3, 4 … — we can skip ahead in equal jumps to count much faster!

Skip counting by 2s

  • Jump over every other number: 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12…
  • Every number you land on is an even number.
  • Useful for counting pairs of shoes, socks, or eyes.

Skip counting by 5s

  • Jump in steps of 5: 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30…
  • Every number you land on ends in 0 or 5.
  • Useful for counting fingers on hands, or nickels.

Skip counting by 10s

  • Jump in steps of 10: 10, 20, 30, 40, 50…100
  • Every number you land on ends in 0 — these are the decade numbers.
  • Useful for counting groups of ten objects quickly.
