Mini Lesson

Worry is a feeling that shows up when something feels unsure, tricky, or a little unsafe. It is not a bad feeling. It is a signal that says, “Pay attention.”

What worry feels like

  • You may feel a tight tummy, quiet voice, or fast thoughts.
  • Your face might look serious, your shoulders might lift, or your hands might fidget.
  • Worry often happens before something hard, new, or unknown.

Things that can cause worry

  • A loud storm, the dark, getting lost, or being alone.
  • Trying something new, making a mistake, or speaking in front of others.
  • Not knowing what will happen next.

How to name the feeling

  • Use the sentence frame: I feel worried when ___.
  • Say the reason clearly so another person can understand and help.
  • Naming the worry is the first step to handling it calmly.
