Express an opinion on a community topic

An OPINION ESSAY is a short piece of writing where you take a CLEAR SIDE on a community topic and back it up. A community topic is something that affects the people around you — your school, your neighborhood, your town. Think school recycling, library hours, park cleanup, a new bike lane. The trick is simple: state your OPINION clearly, give 3 strong REASONS with EXAMPLES, and finish with a line that asks the reader to do something.
