Grammar: Punctuation Mastery — Colons, Semicolons, Dashes, and Hyphens

Strong fifth-grade writing is not just about word choice — it is about the marks BETWEEN the words. Four marks do most of the heavy lifting beyond commas and periods: colons, semicolons, em dashes, and hyphens. Each one has a clear job. Pick the right mark for the job and your sentences become tighter, clearer, and more grown-up.
