Grammar: Verb Moods, Perfect Tenses, and Consistency

A verb does more than name an action — it tells your reader HOW you mean what you say (its mood) and WHEN the action takes place (its tense). Strong fifth-grade writers control both. They pick the right mood for the job, choose the right perfect tense to show timing, and they keep their verbs consistent so the reader is never confused about who did what when.
