ChatGPT is a conversational AI tool that can help you brainstorm ideas, explore questions, summarize information, and reflect on your learning. It works by generating text responses based on your prompts. Used responsibly, it is a powerful thinking partner — but it is never a replacement for your own ideas or judgment.

How to Use ChatGPT for Brainstorming

  • Ask open questions — instead of "What is AI?", ask "What are five ways AI could help my town be more eco-friendly?"
  • Use it to expand your ideas — share your initial idea and ask ChatGPT to suggest improvements or alternatives.
  • Generate lists — ask for pros and cons, examples, or comparisons to spark your own thinking.
  • Request summaries — ask ChatGPT to summarize a topic, then use that as a starting point for your own notes.

Fact-Checking AI Outputs

ChatGPT can make mistakes — it may present false information confidently. This is called a "hallucination". Always verify important facts using a reliable second source such as an encyclopedia, textbook, or trusted educational website.

  1. Read critically — does the AI response make sense? Are there any claims that seem surprising?
  2. Check the facts — look up key claims on at least one reliable external source.
  3. Credit correctly — if you use an AI-generated idea, acknowledge that AI helped you.
  4. Add your voice — rewrite AI responses in your own words; never paste them directly as your work.

Tip: a good prompt gets a good response. Include context and be specific. "Give me three ideas for an AI project about ocean pollution for a school presentation" is much better than "AI ideas".
