Mini Lesson

An SEL portfolio is a collection of your best work and reflections from the year. Presenting it requires all four SEL skills: self-awareness (knowing what you have learned), social awareness (understanding your audience), decision-making (choosing what to share), and relationship skills (communicating with confidence).

The Four SEL Units

  • Unit 1 — Self-Awareness: understanding your values, strengths, emotions, and goals.
  • Unit 2 — Social Awareness: empathy, appreciating diversity, inclusive language, leadership.
  • Unit 3 — Responsible Decision-Making: ethical choices, consequences, problem-solving, online safety.
  • Unit 4 — Relationship Skills: active listening, feedback, teamwork, conflict resolution.

What Goes in a Portfolio?

  1. Choose your best piece of work from each unit.
  2. Write a short reflection for each piece (what you learned, why you chose it).
  3. Organize by unit — one section per unit.
  4. Add a personal introduction and a conclusion about your growth.

Presenting with Confidence

  • Practice your presentation aloud at least three times before the day.
  • Speak clearly and at a steady pace — not too fast.
  • Make eye contact with your audience.
  • Use your portfolio as a prompt, not as a script to read word for word.

self-awareness
