Mini Lesson
Diversity means the variety of different people and backgrounds that exist in a community. Our world is made up of people with different cultures, languages, religions, abilities, and traditions. Learning to appreciate these differences — and the things we share — helps us build stronger, kinder communities.
Types of Diversity
- Cultural diversity — different traditions, foods, celebrations, and customs.
- Language diversity — people who speak different languages or dialects.
- Religious diversity — different faiths, beliefs, and spiritual practices.
- Ability diversity — different physical, cognitive, and learning abilities.
- Family diversity — different family structures and home backgrounds.
Similarities Across Cultures
- All people celebrate important life events such as births, weddings, and achievements.
- All cultures have music, storytelling, and art forms.
- All families care for and protect their members.
- All people need food, shelter, community, and belonging.
Why Diversity Matters
- Diversity brings new ideas, perspectives, and solutions to problems.
