Write About Someone Who Inspires You

Think about someone who makes you want to try harder, be kinder, or reach further. That person inspires you — and the world deserves to hear why. Today you will learn to write a paragraph that captures exactly what makes them so special.

Who Can Inspire You?

• An inspiring person can be anyone: a parent, grandparent, neighbor, coach, sibling, community hero, or a historical figure you have learned about.
• The key is that this person's actions or qualities make YOU want to grow, improve, or act differently.
• Examples: a coach who never gives up on a player, a parent who works hard every day, a local firefighter.

Paragraph Structure

• Topic sentence — Who? Name the person, describe who they are, and state that they inspire you.
• "What they do" sentences — Describe two or three specific actions or qualities that make them inspiring. Use strong action verbs: works, teaches, helps, shows, never gives up, dedicates.
• "Why they inspire me" sentences — Explain the effect this person has on you. What do you want to do because of them?
• Closing sentence — End with an aspiration: something you hope to do or become because of this person’s example.

Strong Word Choices

• Replace weak words with powerful ones: instead of nice, write compassionate; instead of good, write dedicated or courageous.
• Quality words: generous, determined, patient, brave, humble, hardworking, encouraging.

Personal Impact — the "Because of" Sentence

• The most powerful line in an inspirational paragraph begins with "Because of [name]..." — it shows the direct link between the person’s example and the writer’s own growth.
• Example: "Because of her, I try my best even when things are hard."
