Transportation is the movement of people, animals, or goods from one place to another. Transportation systems connect communities, countries, and continents — making trade, travel, and daily life possible.
Land transport
- Moves on roads, railways, or paths across land.
- Examples: cars, buses, trains, trucks, bicycles, motorcycles.
- Most people use land transport every day — to get to work, the park, or the store.
- Freight trains and trucks carry goods across countries.
Water transport
- Moves across rivers, lakes, seas, and oceans.
- Examples: cargo ships, ferries, sailboats, canoes, submarines.
- Most of the world's trade goods travel by cargo ship across oceans.
Air transport
- Moves through the air — the fastest way to travel long distances.
- Examples: airplanes, helicopters, hot-air balloons, drones.
- Airplanes carry passengers and express cargo around the globe in hours.
Why does transportation matter?
- It allows communities to trade goods they cannot produce locally.
- It connects families, cultures, and countries — making the world feel smaller.

Vocabulary
Transportation

Vehicle

Cargo
