Mini Lesson

Culture is the way of life shared by a group of people — their language, food, traditions, celebrations, art, and beliefs. Every country in the world has its own unique culture, and many countries have several cultures within them.

What makes up a culture?

  • Language — the words people use to communicate. Example: people in Brazil speak Portuguese.
  • Food — the dishes and ingredients typical of a place. Example: sushi is a well-known food from Japan.
  • Traditions and celebrations — special customs, holidays, and festivals. Example: Diwali is the Festival of Lights celebrated in India.
  • Art and music — paintings, dances, instruments, and styles unique to that culture.

Six countries and their distinct cultural facts
