Mini Lesson

You are a citizen of your town. You are also a citizen of your country. And you are a global citizen — a member of the whole world community, with the power to make it a better place.

What is a global citizen?

  • A global citizen is someone who cares about people and places beyond their own neighborhood or country.
  • Example: Learning about a natural disaster in another country and finding a way to help — even from far away.
  • Global citizens understand that what happens in one part of the world can affect everyone.

The four steps of global citizenship

  1. Learn about the world — read, watch, and ask questions about different countries, cultures, and world events.
  2. Respect others — honor the differences in language, culture, and belief that exist around the globe.
  3. Take action — do something: donate, volunteer, spread kindness, or reduce your environmental impact.
  4. Make a difference — your actions, added to others', create real change in the world.

Why does it matter?

  • Global problems — like pollution, hunger, and unfairness — need people around the world working together.
  • Even small acts, like recycling or being kind online, contribute to a healthier, more just world.

Global citizen
