A community is a group of people who live and work together in the same place β€” and every community needs leaders to keep things running smoothly.

What is a community leader?

  • A community leader is someone with a special role that helps others.
  • Example: A mayor makes decisions for an entire city or town.
  • Leaders provide services β€” things that help people stay safe, healthy, and informed.

Leaders at the city level

  • The mayor leads the city council and signs new laws.
  • The police officer protects people and makes sure laws are followed.
  • The firefighter responds to emergencies and rescues people in danger.

Leaders in our everyday lives

  • The principal leads the school and makes sure every student is safe.
  • The librarian helps people find books and information to keep learning.
  • The doctor keeps the community healthy and treats illness.
