Mini Lesson

Did you know that a tiny drop of water can slowly fill a whole bucket? That is exactly how habits work. Every small healthy choice you make every single day adds up — and over time, those small choices create big results for your body and mind.

What is a habit?

  • A habit is something you do so regularly that it becomes automatic.
  • Healthy habits protect your body and boost your mood and energy.
  • Unhealthy habits may feel easy in the moment but weaken your health over time.

Five areas of healthy daily habits

  • Sleep — go to bed on time, get 9 to 11 hours.
  • Nutrition — eat vegetables, fruits, and water every day.
  • Movement — be active for at least 60 minutes a day.
  • Hygiene — brush teeth, wash hands, stay clean.
  • Mindset — say kind things to yourself, read, practice gratitude.

How do habits form?

  • You do something once, then again, then again — it becomes automatic.
  • Habits are easier to build when attached to an existing routine (e.g., brush teeth right after breakfast).
  • Every day you choose a healthy habit, you are investing in your future self.
