Mini Lesson

Have you ever felt a little voice inside telling you "that does not feel right" just before you do something? That voice is your conscience — and it is one of the best guides you have for making good choices.

What is a right choice?

  • A right choice is helpful, kind, honest, or safe.
  • It does not hurt yourself or anyone else.
  • Example: Telling the truth when you make a mistake.
  • Right choices often take a little courage — but they always feel better afterward.

What is a wrong choice?

  • A wrong choice is harmful, unfair, dishonest, or unkind.
  • It may feel tempting in the moment but leads to a bad outcome.
  • Example: Taking something that does not belong to you.

Three conscience checks before acting

  • Is it helpful or harmful? — Does it help or hurt someone?
  • Is it kind or unkind? — How will this make the other person feel?
  • Is it honest or dishonest? — Would I be comfortable if everyone knew what I was doing?

Vocabulary
Right choice
A choice that is helpful, kind, honest, or safee.g. Telling the truth is a right choice.
Wrong choice
A choice that is harmful, dishonest, or unkinde.g. Taking what is not yours is a wrong choice.
Conscience
The inner voice that helps you tell right from wronge.g. My conscience told me to give back the pencil.
Honest
Telling the truthe.g. Being honest means owning up to mistakes.
Tempting
Hard to resist even when it is wronge.g. Cheating may be tempting, but it is a wrong choice.
