Mini Lesson

Everything you have learned about the human body comes together in this project. A healthy life is not just one good habit — it is a combination of what you eat, how much you move, how well you sleep, and how clean you keep your body. Today you will create a poster that shows all four pillars of health.

The four pillars of health

  • Nutrition: The body needs three food groups — grains for energy, protein for growth and muscle repair, and dairy for calcium (strong bones and teeth).
  • Exercise: Children need about 60 minutes of activity every day. Exercise strengthens muscles and the heart, and the brain releases endorphins that improve mood.
  • Sleep: Children need 9 to 11 hours of sleep. During deep sleep the body repairs muscles, builds memory, boosts the immune system, and restores energy.
  • Hygiene: Wash hands in five steps, brush teeth twice a day for two minutes, and floss to remove plaque the brush cannot reach.

What your poster will show

  1. Fold a large piece of paper into four sections, one per pillar.
  2. In the Nutrition section, draw the three food groups and note what each provides.
  3. In the Exercise section, draw three good activities and the 60-minute daily target.
  4. In the Sleep section, draw the four things that happen during sleep and the 9–11 hour target.
  5. In the Hygiene section, draw the five hand-washing steps and the four tooth types.
  6. Finish with a title and a personal pledge — "I will stay healthy by..."
