Mini Lesson
The internet is a powerful tool for learning, playing, and creating. But just like in the real world, there are rules that keep you safe when you are online. The most important rule: always use the internet with a trusted adult nearby.
What is personal information?
- Personal information is any detail that could help a stranger find you in real life.
- This includes your full name, home address, phone number, town name, and photos of yourself.
- Never share personal information online — not in a game, a chat, a comment, or any app.
Safe online behaviors
- Use the internet only when a trusted adult says it is okay.
- Visit only websites and apps that a trusted adult has approved.
- Be kind in every message, comment, and chat — treat others the way you want to be treated.
- Close or put down the device if something pops up that feels scary, mean, or confusing.
What to do when something feels wrong online
- Stop using the device right away — close the screen or put it down.
- Tell a trusted adult immediately — show them what you saw.
- You are never in trouble for reporting something that felt wrong or scared you.
💡
Ask yourself: "Would a trusted adult be okay with what I am doing online right now? If something feels wrong, who can I show?
